Opportunities needed for summer youth programs in welding and automation/robotics

MAGNET has partnered with the Ohio Department of Education’s “Project Lead the Way,” Lincoln Electric, Rockwell Automation, and area high schools to offer residential summer institutes to high school students in welding and automation.robotics. The purpose of these intensive experiences, taking place from June 14 through June 20, is to increase the students’ awareness of careers in these fields and encourage them to pursue post-secondary education. Students enrolled in welding or automation/robotics programs who have completed the 11th grade will be eligible to apply to one of the institutes. Students will stay at Case Western Reserve University and be visiting companies in Northeast Ohio.

We need manufacturers to help make these two institutes meaningful, challenging, and relevant. You can help create your workforce of the future by providing:

  • expert instructors for Institute sessions
  • assistance with curriculum development
  • an on-site tour of your company
  • hands-on lessons and problem-based learning activities
  • welding equipment (helmets, gloves, jackets, safety glasses)
  • a student scholarship for the Institute ($500)
  • general financial support
